Join us in honoring our 2019 Woman Lawyer of the Year, Laurie Robinson Haden, Senior Vice President and Assistant General Counsel at CBS Corporation and the Founder and CEO of Corporate Counsel Women of Color. Ms. Robinson Haden created Corporate Counsel Women of Color (CCWC) in 2004 to advance women of color attorneys and to foster diversity in the legal profession. The non-profit professional organization has grown from 30 members to over 4,000 members within a 15-year period. Through CCWC, Ms. Robinson Haden provides strategic leadership within the areas of branding, publishing, business development, web development and interactive, marketing, sponsorships, and fundraising. She develops programming for diverse professional lawyers including CCWC’s Annual Career Strategies Conferences and CCWC’s International Career Strategies Symposiums. Mrs. Robinson Haden spearheaded the 2011 groundbreaking research report on the career progression of women of color attorneys entitled “Perspectives of Women of Color Attorneys in Corporate Legal Departments.” Click here to read more about Ms. Robinson Haden's accomplishments.

Our keynote speaker for the evening is Barbara Starr, CNN's Pentagon correspondent. Ms. Starr appears regularly on The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer, New Day and other shows across the network regularly breaking big news and delivering exclusive coverage on the U.S. military and political situation on a global scale. Throughout her career, Ms. Starr has made repeated trips to Iraq, Afghanistan and the Horn of Africa and has reported twice from Syria. She traveled to Beirut, Lebanon in 2006 with U.S. Marines tasked with evacuating Americans during Israel's war with Hezbollah. Starr has also reported directly from the Persian Gulf, Russia, Central America and the Chinese-North Korean border. Throughout her career, Ms. Starr has profiled numerous wounded troops, the plight of homeless veterans and reported on the fallen regularly from Section 60 at Arlington National Cemetery, the final resting place for veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Our theme for this 2018-2019 bar year is "Dare to Make An Impact"While we have made great advances over the past 101 years, our work is far from done. Now is not the time to be fatigued or discouraged. It is the time to continue to stand up and be heard and DARE TO MAKE AN IMPACTThe WBA as an organization serves as a catalyst for women helping women.

Founded in 1917, the WBA is one of the oldest voluntary bar associations in the United States dedicated to the advancement of women in the law. Our Annual Dinner helps support the ongoing efforts of the WBA to maintain the honor and integrity of the legal profession, to promote the administration of justice, and to advance and protect the interests of women lawyers. Proceeds from the Annual Dinner also help support the WBA Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization whose mission is to leverage the generosity of lawyers and friends to support nonprofits that serve the legal and related needs of women and girls in the DC Metropolitan community
