Mass incarceration does not only unnecessarily deprive people of their freedom — it also comes with enormous social and economic costs for incarcerated individuals (during and after incarceration), their families, and their communities.
Millions of people are incarcerated in America, often in conditions that violate constitutional standards.  Many have been swept up in the “War on Drugs” or impacted by overly punitive sentencing requirements, and physical and sexual abuses in prison are endemic.
This panel discussion will provide an overview of the prison system and the incarceration experience, as well as insights into advocating for the incarcerated and the sufficiency of recent federally-enacted sentencing and prison reforms.
